Loan Forgiveness ProgramsÌý

There are also exciting loan forgiveness programs you could be eligible for as a NYCPS teacher:Ìý

Teachers in high-need districts or subject areas in New York State may apply for loan forgiveness. To qualify, you must:Ìý

  • Be certified as a teacher in NYSÌý
  • Be employed full-time in an elementary or secondary school in NYSÌý
  • Teach a subject-shortage area or in a hard-to-staff districtÌý
  • Be a NYS resident for 12 continuous months prior to applicationÌý
  • Have an outstanding balance on an eligible student loan debtÌý

ÌýÌý

The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans:Ìý

  • After you’ve made the equivalent of 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment planÌý
  • While working full-time for an eligible employerÌý
